This book is really sad.  But also really thought provoking.

Set in the 60's, a father delivers his own twins in a snow storm and when he realizes that his daughter has downs syndrome, he has his nurse take her away without telling his wife.  Unable to leave her at the institution the doctor sends her to, the nurse keeps her and raises her as her own daughter.  It is all about what happens as a result of that one choice.

It's choices that make us who we are.  Very good read.
